Hiking in Vermont

View from Mt MansfieldFrom short and easy loops to challenging mountain peak treks, Vermont has hiking to offer everyone. At Golden Stage Inn, we are happy to recommend hikes in the area, and have several books and resources to help you choose. Most any hiking trail you choose in Vermont will be beautiful. There are a few questions to ask yourself before you set out, however.

  • First, consider what difficulty level you are looking for, and how long you want to spend on the trail. It is helpful to know about how long it takes you to hike a mile–guidebooks won’t necessarily tell you how long it takes to hike a trail since everyone has their own pace and ability. Rather, the books will simply list the mileage.
  • Consider what you are looking for in your hike: Access to water and swimming areas? Spectacular views? Are you happy to hike the same trail in two directions, or would you rather do a loop or one-way hike? If there are varying hiking needs within your group, is there a place you can go that offers multiple trail options?
  • Prepare yourself for the day! Pack plenty of water, as well as sunscreen, bug spray, and snacks for the trail. Stock up at a store near Golden Stage Inn. There are also several great state parks nearby with picnic areas, so you can have your lunch before or after your hike.
